Mind flossing
“I will not let anyone or anything walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”
Very often, I throw all my thoughts on pen & paper. Literally, whatever I’m thinking about at that particular moment in time, I dump it all onto any piece of paper I can find. I use this as a method to organize, prioritize, and floss out any and all lingering thoughts which are no longer serving my best interest.
For me, adding the physical action of writing allows for much deeper and stronger connections to be made between the neurons in our brain. Typing on the computer isn’t as therapeutic, honestly, the keyboard is cold and the possibility for distractions are way more present with the internet.
A piece of paper is just what it is, and so is the pen or pencil…nothing more, nothing less.
I’d recommend doing this mind flossing often. During these sessions, I want to get everything and anything within my mind in that exact moment, out of my mind, and onto the paper. Whether that be the tasks I need to complete…or maybe even the thoughts about things that happened from the immediate past or that might be happening in the not-so-distant future…our minds are constantly making these monkey-like movements, from one branch to the next, one thought swinging towards the next.
Sometimes, our minds are overflowing with all these different things we have to give our attention to, overwhelming us and causing stress. That’s why I mind floss on the daily!!! I feel better after I get all my thoughts onto the paper because the exercise provides me a certain level of clarity of mind.
Everything on my mind is now right in front of my eyes, on the page….and then, from there, I’m properly able to decide which of these things truly deserve my full attention and which do not.

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”
